Downtown Selmer’s Redevelopment Plan is a community-driven initiative led by the McNairy County Economic Development Board/Foundation to revitalize the heart of the city and strengthen its economic future. Farmer | Morgan was engaged to prepare this plan through a community-driven design process grounded in a week-long charrette held March 31–April 3, 2025. More than 150 residents, business owners, and community leaders participated, providing valuable insight into local needs and aspirations. The plan focuses on creating safer, more attractive streetscapes, new public gathering spaces, and targeted economic development strategies.
Key components of the plan include:
Streetscape Improvements: Safer, more accessible streets with upgraded sidewalks, lighting, crosswalks, landscaping, and signage to create a stronger sense of place.
Public Spaces: New pocket parks and green gathering areas that support outdoor events, promote social interaction, and encourage families and visitors to spend more time downtown.
Economic Development Strategies: Targeted
actions based on market analysis to attract investment, support existing businesses, and preserve Selmer’s small-town charm.
Collectively, these initiatives will position Downtown Selmer for renewed economic growth, expanded tourism, and enhanced quality of life for residents. The plan represents a strategic investment in the future of McNairy County, offering funders and partners a high-impact opportunity to support a community-led vision with strong local momentum.
